After a preview last week of Honda Indonesia, the new generation of Honda’s FL5 Civic Type R is finally unveiled today.
The 2023 Civic Type R is based on the 11th generation Civic, and is the sixth Civic Type R since 1997. It is known that the car broke the FWD lap record at the Suzuka circuit in Japan in April, and it is thought to have surpassed its predecessor’s 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The visual design is available in Rallye Red, Racing Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Sonic Grey Pearl and Championship White. These changes are all improvements over the previous generation, and the new Civic Type R is officially described as “lighter and more rigid”, with “enhanced suspension and steering” to improve driving pleasure.
Finally, the interior is almost entirely new, with the exception of the metal gear lever, including a horizontal dashboard and 10.2-inch centre screen with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The new number plate has been moved to the top of the glove compartment.
The exact price of all the options and packages is expected to be announced nearer the time of the official launch in autumn 2022, with the press predicting that the car will start at $40,000, slightly less than the Volkswagen Golf R. Interested readers may wish to keep an eye out.
